Communication Authority of Kenya Director General Ezra Chiloba has been suspended.

Board chair Mary Mungai in a memo to staff announced the suspension following a board meeting on Monday. The board has appointed Christopher Wambua, the agencyโ€™s director of communications, as acting Director General.

โ€œFollowing a meeting of the Authorityโ€™s Board held on 18th September 2023, resulting in the suspension of the Director General, I am pleased to inform all staff of the appointment of Mr Christopher Wambua as a Director General in Acting Capacity effective today until further notice,โ€ the board announced.

Until July this year, Wambua was acting CEO of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).ย He returned to the authority to take up the position previously held.

It was not immediately clear why Chiloba, a former chief executive of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), was shown the door. He was appointed to the position in 2021 to take over from the late Francis Wangusi whose term had ended in 2019.
